Building the Way Home with CPAH has never been more important.
At CPAH, we build housing, manage it in into the future, and support our residents. But much like the sweet childhood game of Chutes and Ladders, nothing is as direct as it should be.
This year with the pandemic, our organization, and our efforts to provide housing and services have been impacted by supply chain disruptions, labor shortages, resident income loss, and business closures, to name just a few things, along with the ongoing challenges of working remotely. Like the game, we go about our work, steadily progressing project by project, and then something shifts. Yet thanks to you, our community partners, each time we tumble down a chute, there is a ladder there waiting.
The need for stable, sustainable housing has never been greater. We are expanding to meet this need, and we need you to help make it happen!
Despite the past years’ challenges, CPAH’s services staff connected nearly every single resident who was struggling to pay rent with rent assistance, along with tons of other supports like energy assistance and mental health services. And the need continues.
Also this year, CPAH’s housing development staff finalized the leasing of two projects and finished a much needed rehabilitation, all while continuing our two newest projects (The Joyce and Plambeck Gardens). Additionally, with assistance from the City of Tigard, we purchased a new piece of property.
Other big milestones include adding a position focused only on fundraising (thanks to Meyer Memorial Trust), a full-time finance director, two new services positions, and we are now offering youth services to five buildings instead of three. In fact, we have doubled in size in the past five years.
The urgency of the housing crisis means that we have to grow and expand to meet the pressing needs of our community.
By January, we will have completed our strategic plan, including our equity plan, which will serve us for the next three to five years. As an organization, CPAH has made new commitments for the future, too:
- Provide services to people who are experiencing homelessness throughout Washington County by doing case management and housing navigation.
- Provide resident services in apartment communities that are not owned by CPAH.
- While we will keep our home base in Washington County, we will begin developing housing in other parts of the region.
It has been a hard year for our residents, our community, and at times, for the amazing staff at CPAH. Still, I am so proud and pleased with the work that has happened. I am grateful for our community partners, funders, and for you who support our work and make it possible to keep Building the Way Home. I look forward to the work we have ahead of us and what we will accomplish with your partnership.
